Did you know that you can link your website on the Youtube video you just upload?

Using “End Screen & Annotations”, you can put direct link to your website.  But putting link to your website isn’t easy as putting your subscription link or other Youtube videos.  First, your website has to be verified by Youtube which basically means, Youtube needs to know that you own the website.

Starting in May 2017, Youtube has changed its rule on how you can associate website site with your Youtube channel.   Before May 2017, all you have to do is verify that the website is your website, and you can easily put direct link at the end of the Youtube video.  But now, Youtube made it bit harder.  But it doesn’t mean you should give up.  Putting a direct link to your website is good way to promote your website and bring more traffic to your website. It is worth your effort to associate your website.

You have to follow these three steps to associate your website with your Youtube channel.

1. Join the Youtube partner Program

The YouTube Partner Program just means, enabling the monetization option on your Youtube channel.  In order to monetize your website, you first have to have more than 10,000 views.  If you don’t have 10,000 views yet, there is nothing you can do.  You just have to wait until  you have 10,000 views.  Getting 10,000 view isn’t difficult as it sound. You just have to create many good quality video as you can and soon you’ll have 10,000 views.

In order to monetize your Youtube channel, you also need to create Adsense account with Google.  Adsense account is free to create, and it keep tracks of all the money you are making.

Once you have meet all the requirement, Youtube will review your channel to make sure your channel activity adheres to the YouTube Partner Program policies and Guidelines, and let you know as soon as the process is complete.

Once you are approved, then you are eligible to enable monetization option.

You can read more about how to monetize your channel here.

2. Associate your site with Google account

Once you enabled the monetization, you can add your website as an “associated website” in your Google account.

In order to add your website, go to Advanced Channel Settings under CHANNEL.

In the “Associated website” section, enter the URL, and click ADD.  It will show as “pending,” unless you’ve verified the site before.

Under the URL box, click VERIFY if you own the website or Request approval to have the website’s owner approve it.

3. Site verification (1and1 Host example)

To verify your website, you’ll be redirected to Google’s Search Console.  Google Search Console was once known as Webmaster Tool. Google Search Console is a free service offered by Google that helps you monitor and maintain your website’s presence in Google search results.

Sign in with the same Google Account information that you use for your YouTube channel.  First thing you need to do is add your website to Search Console.

Click on ADD A PROPERTY to add your website.

In ADD PROPERTY window, type in your website URL. Click ADD after you are done.

After you add your site to Search Console, it will go through a verification process.

Easiest verification method is HTML file upload method. In order to use HTM file upload method, you need complete control over your website.  If you are trying to link free blog sites, you won’t be able to use HTML file upload method since you don’t have full control over your website.  But if you are running your website from a web hosting company you signed up for, you can use this method and it is very easy.

In this example, I’ll be using website hosted by 1and1 Hosting.  If you are looking for web hosting, try 1and1 Hosting.  They are very easy to use and very reliable.

HTML file upload is pretty simple.  You download a special HTML file from YouTube.  You upload this file to the root director of your website.  Then point your browser to this HTML file.  Then you are verified. Easy as that.

Uploading to your website using 1and1 Hosting is very easy.  When you login to your Control Panel console, look for WebSpaceExplorer.  WebSpaceExplore is almost like Windows Explore where you can copy or move files to your web server. When you sign up for 1and1 Hosting, you’ll get access to Control Panel console where you can fully control your website. WebSapceExplore is located under HOSTING section.

But first, you have to know where your website is located at.  If your website is running on WordPress, most likely, it is located inside “.clickandbuilds/” folder.   If you look inside “clickandbuilds/” folder, you’ll see your WordPress website folder where all your website files are located.  This is where you want to upload the special HTML file.

Upload the HTML file by click on UPLOAD option under TRANSFER menu.  Once upload is complete, you’ll see the HTML file on the right column.

If you don’t know where you website file is located at, you can always check where the domain name is pointing at.  Go to DOMAIN CENTER section under DOMAINS.

In Domain Center, look for WEBSPACE section.  Webspace section tells your where your website folders are located.

Once the HTML file is uploaded, follow the instruction by point your browser to the HTML file.

Once verification is complete, the website’s status will change from “pending” to “success” in your Advanced Channel Settings and you can follow the steps below to add a card that will take viewers to any page in that website.

4. Add a card on your video to link to your website.

Now you are able to create a direct link from your video using End Screen & Annotations.

Go to  End Screen & Annotations.

Under ADD ELEMENT on the right side, there is option for LINK to an approved website. Click CREATE.

On the bottome, you’ll see the website you already associted.  When you click on the LINK on the bottom, Link URL will appear on top. Click NEXT.

Fill in the Title if you want something different. Choose a CALL TO ACTION option. I usually choose VISIT. Choose an image for the link.  When all done, click CREATE ELEMENT.

5. Create image for the link

When you have some time to spare, it is nice to create a custom image you can use for the direct link.  The image has to be square with 200×200 demsnion.

Good Luck!
